Remember the fun

I was talking to Sara the other day about all the good times Steph and I had as kids hanging out after school waiting for our parents to get home from work.

This included dressing her up in my hockey gear and shooting tennis balls at her. But only after roller skating around my Uncle’s pool table that was stored in the basement. Don’t worry, she was never hurt and was great at defending the card-table goal.

I also remember all the time we spent under the pool table during Tornado Warnings. We were scared, but glad we had each other to keep company as we waited for the sirens to end or our parents to get home from work.

ERESHKIGAL

I had the day off today and found a blog that posted mp3s of Steph’s band Ereshkigal.

It made me really happy.

I immediately went to my iTunes library and started listening to all of their songs. It’s taken me this long, almost 3 years since her death to revisit them, but I’m really glad I did.

When I first went to see them play, I remember 2 things. One being some drunk kid harassing her. I was all ready to defend my kid sister when she took care of it herself. She was fearless, but put some in that kid. The other thing was, I was so proud of her and couldn’t believe how good they were.

I have been in bands on and off since I was 15, and it was so great to share another commonality with her. Talking about recording, riding hours with too many people in a stinky van, or just laughing about her lyrics together during our weekly dinner at my apartment.

July 18th would have been my sister’s 33rd Birthday.

Even though due to some technical issues this is posted late, please take a moment to think of her. Think about the good times and the fun you shared with her. Also, please think about what you can do in her honor.

I want to thank everyone that came out to the benefit concert last year. It meant so much to my family. I hope we can start to have some sort of annual event, even if it’s just a small gathering of friends.

As far as the scholarship is concerned, there is some good news coming soon. Please however keep your ideas for fundraising coming in. Any help or thoughts are greatly appreciated.
